With special
permission, the builders planned to locate
the pool into the hillside. The stipulation was
that it not be seen from the street. This new
facet of the building process brought its own
dilemmas. Drainage was an issue due to the
severe slope of the yard and aesthetically
speaking, they had to link the pool and beams
with the home's antique brick.
After much creative thinking, John Byrd of
Avalon Pools said he had to throw out everything
he knew about conventional pool design. The
finished project was worth every minute of
careful planning. They turned the beach entry
sideways to fit into the space available, which
leads down to a long ledge. Their daughter
Ashley, born with special needs, can easily access
the ledge and beach entry with her wheelchair.
